Saturn, still returning is a four movement solo percussion work scored for vibraphone, glockenspiel, kick drum, snare drum, and electronics written by Broxson (Daniel Strange) for percussionist Chris Sies, with support from the University of Michigan's EXCEL Lab and Calgary Arts Development.

From the composer:

It takes twenty-nine and a half years for Saturn to complete one orbit around the sun and return to the same position it was in when you were born. This fact, among many other things, was the topic of conversation between Chris Sies and I one hot summer afternoon in Waco, TX in 2018. The gist being you can ascribe all kinds of meanings to Saturn's homecoming, and many people do, but there's no denying that the years approaching thirty can be very strange, indeed.

About the Composer:

An honest songwriter and exploratory composer and producer, Broxson (Daniel Strange) blurs the lines between compositions, songs, and soundscapes. Daniel takes on each new project with a ground-up approach - from writing/composing, arranging, to mixing and mastering. His debut EP, Good Grief (2020) was written while he was a student of Todd Meehan at the Baylor University School of Music, and features a blend of percussion chamber music, psychedelia, and songwriting, as well as co-production and collaboration from Chris Sies. His newest work, Saturn, still returning (2024) is a multi-movement work written for a solo percussionist on vibraphone, glockenspiel, snare, kick, and electronics. Commissioned by Chris Sies, Saturn explores tuning, frequency interactions, and electro-acoustic instrument pairings, and features Daniel’s blend of song, structure, and sonic exploration.
